Basset in Blue

I’m cheating a little today. Since I’ll be traveling to Pasadena to attend a Leslie Saeta workshop on palette knife work, I’m posting a painting I did a little bit ago (before the 30 days began).

I love the soulful expression and colors of this one!

Corgie in Field Day 13

My friend has corgis.  I love watching their antics online – the puppy is adorable.  I’ve had this photo (and the one tomorrow) for a while – looking for an excuse to paint the.

Fur is hard!  I’ve been playing with putting in the blocks of color and then “smearing” it.

Aussie - Sweet Dusty Day 11

I'm a day late today on Dusty. Yesterday just got in the way!

Sweet Dusty was an Aussie rescue I fostered in Norfolk back in the day.  She was a wonderful, sweet older girl and had been turned in by her family because she was "too clingly."  She was typical velcro Aussie - attached to her person and constantly on foot (mine).  We spent a lot of time finding the right home for her, where she could live out her days in pampered love!

Mudi in Snow Day 10

The Mudi is a rare Hungarian herding dog that is beginning to make an appearance here in the USA.  There is an active Mudi group.  The dogs are wonderful – and excel in agility, herding, flyball …  I think they look like a cross between a poodle and a fox.  Check them out!  I have had this photo (from a Facebook friend) for a while.  I love the shape!

Afghan Hound Day 9

Once upon a time, we showed dogs in Spain (Irish Setters).  One of our friends, Norman, was the “Afghan Man.”  His hounds were international champions.  He was a great friend, and handled our Setters in the ring.  I always loved the look of his dogs – to this day, I’m partial to the Afghan Hound.  In memory of Norman!

Border Collie modified

Two posts today.  I couldn’t stand the “Border Collie Stare” that my painting from yesterday was giving me (baaaa).  So I did some modifications this morning.  Darkened and worked around the eyes (and a couple of other places for punch), and added some interest in the foreground.  Better, I think…
